Airbnb houses and homestay accommodations are a brilliant idea for the travel lovers around the world. It provides a reasonable price range and more than that, it connects the locals and travelers in a modern and convenient way. I’m a travel addict and I love searching for rooms that make my trip more unforgettable. Here are my top 5 Airbnb/homestay experiences in the last 2 years. Believe me, you would LOVE them too if you have a chance to stay in those houses on your vacation.

Still skeptical about the safety and privacy issues when staying in someone’s house??? Don’t worry, I’ll share with you some useful tips that I collected after successfully booking more than 20 local houses in different countries.

#1. The Christmas house – Cologne, Germany

I visited Cologne during the Christmas season in 2017 and I booked this Airbnb house simply because of the good price and the location. Only when I got there, I found out that the whole house was decorated with a lot of Christmas decoration. Surprised and love it so much <3!!! And I realized that the German not only has the best Christmas markets in Europe, but they also bring the whole festive atmosphere into their houses. How wonderful it is!!!

It was also easy to get around with the nearby tram station. The host was so sweet to me and my friend. She shared a lot of useful information about the Christmas markets. Though she didn’t speak English, we used Google translate to communicate and everything was just perfect.

Here is the photo of the bedroom (source: Airbnb), because I was so excited about the Christmas stuff in the other rooms and forgot to take this one hehe.

#2. The artistic house – Paris, France

If you’re looking for an affordable and comfortable place to stay in Paris, this artistic house will definitely be the best place. This house is located in Montreuil, a safe and clean neighbor which just takes around 20 minutes by metro to the center of Paris.

It was much better than I expected. Their house is really cool and stylish. The hosts were outstanding and they took care of us very well. But at the same time, they gave us all privacy with the spacious bedroom, private toilet, and shower. In the morning, we had breakfast with them, enjoyed the fresh handmade bread and chit chat like real friends for hours. Their dog, Loula, was also friendly and sweet. Before we left, they’ve given us a bottle of French red wine. To be honest, our trip to Paris couldn’t be that great without their hospitality.

#3. The garden house – Plitvice, Croatia

People usually come here to visit the famous Plitvice National Park in Croatia. Before booking a room in this house on, I was quite indecisive because there were so many options to stay around this area. Luckily, I made the right decision and had a pleasant stay in this guesthouse.

This house is really lovely! It has a garden full of fruits and I collected some for my road trip. The host was super friendly and she made a big breakfast for us. I couldn’t expect something more than this. Plus, the morning view from the balcony was spectacular.

#4. The elegant house – Dusseldorf, Germany

I had a weekend trip in Dusseldorf and actually, my friend found this house on Airbnb and sent it to me. At first, I was quite hesitant because of the high price (about €50/night for 2 people) but we couldn’t find a better place so we ended up booking 1 night here.

I didn’t meet the owner of this house but she was super responsive and kind on the messages. Her room is so charming, clean and organized. I loved every corner in the room and I wish I could stay there longer. This is definitely the best place to stay in Dusseldorf but unfortunately, it’s not always available for booking.

#5. The art gallery house – Taipei, Taiwan

Me enjoying tea and Taiwanese music in the morning

The place is called Vvoo Art and it looks like an art gallery. The works are displayed in the living room are the most talented and unique art pieces that the owner collected.

Four things that this house impressed me: spacious beautiful living room, comfortable bedroom, super clean toilet, convenient kitchen.

The communication and check-in, check-out with Vvoo Art were easy and quick. I only met the owner one time when I checked in. Although I arrived at the house quite late (11pm), she still waited for me and warmly welcomed me.

Moreover, the nearest MRT station (Nanjing Samin) can be reached within a 5-minute walk. I was completely satisfied during my stay at Vvoo Art.
